How to harness the magic and beauty of Wild Argyll?

Every day I’m inspired by the natural environment around my studio. Early mornings I walk the few steps with our spaniel, Jasmine, into the ancient woodland next to our home - pure magic. Calm dewdrop mornings or wild whipping wind, sometimes dappled sunshine on mossy roots and rocks.

I try to capture some of that wild magic as I design and hand make my jewellery collections here on the Craignish Peninsula. Always looking for intricate natural forms and textures to use in my designs – lichen is featuring strongly in my work just now.

Gorgeous bits found as windfall in the woods – or I rescue it from firewood – then coat it with layer upon layer of silver paste which is fired to capture every tiny beautiful detail preserved as pure silver.

The coastline here is wonderful rocky shores and mirrored skies. Forever foraging for the perfect piece of seaweed to work with and hoping for driftwood – I have ideas about a drifted silver collection.

Much of my work is commission based. There is such pleasure in creating bespoke pieces with a person in mind. Amazing what can be created when people share ideas.

I am constantly inspired by my friends and their art, music and beauty. Life is busy – my full-time work is our family run wholesale plant nursery. My fingers always either covered in compost or silver – sometimes both! A good combination – to be outside with the plants then to come into the studio to work on the designs that flow around my head through the days.

I spent 12 years living in Australia with my husband, Matt, and our daughter, Lily, who was born there. We loved the Northern Rivers but it was wonderful to return to Argyll and the west coast of Scotland.

There is something powerful about walking the paths I know so well and returning to the land that I feel so connected to. To walk in the places of ancient ritual and see the remains of a culture that existed so long before us is an amazing thing.
