Helensburgh & Loch Lomond
One of the best things about glamping is that you can do it at any time of the year. Comfortable cabins and pods will keep you toasty and dry whatever the weather. Glamping is a popular choice for walkers, cyclists and kayakers. It means you don’t have to carry any heavy camping gear, bedding or towels with you. With no tent to erect or mattress to blow up, you can instantly kick back and start enjoying your holiday. And you get to enjoy a good night’s sleep after a hard day in the hills or on the water.
You really are spoiled for choice when it comes to great campsites in the Loch Lomond area. From larger holiday parks to smaller sites on farms or in secluded woodland settings around the loch, there’s something for everyone. The larger holiday parks often cater for all campers, offering everything from cosy cabins to simple pitches, glamping pods to static caravans.
Luss Caravan & Campsite has recently been refurbished and upgraded its camping and touring pitches with full facilities. It’s a stunning 90-pitch campsite right on the shores of Loch Lomond with great views of Ben Lomond. Luss is a picturesque, historic conservation village, with some fantastic places to eat and drink. A number of companies offer cruises and waterbus services around Loch Lomond from Luss Pier.
Loch Lomond Holiday Park, further up the loch at Inveruglas, is a fabulous place for a glamping holiday. With a beautifully scenic location on the banks of Loch Lomond, it’s the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area. Run by award-winning Argyll Holidays, it offers luxury lodges, caravans and glamping pods designed for two. They come complete with a comfy double bed which folds down above the sofa, plus a well-equipped washroom and kitchen. They also have stunning loch views.
Lomond Woods Holiday Park in Balloch at the southern end of Loch Lomond is one such place. It offers deluxe lodges (complete with hot tubs!), heated pods that can sleep two adults and two children, and hard-standing and fully serviced pitches for tourers and motorhomes. The holiday park is just a short walk from Loch Lomond Shores, the gateway to the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, where you’ll find a wide range of shopping, eating, outdoor activities and events for all the family. Sitting right at the northern-most tip of Loch Lomond, Ardlui Holiday Park is a brilliant all-year round camping and glamping destination. If you’re looking to pitch your tent, then there’s a campsite here. It’s popular with walkers of The West Highland Way. It runs along the other side of the loch and is accessed via a ferry from the Ardlui Marina. If you fancy glamping, try the timber camping pods equipped with underfloor heating, lighting and a lovely deck. All you need to bring is your sleeping bag. There are also seven fully equipped tarmac stances overlooking the loch for tourers and campervans.
Even further north is Beinglas Farm Campsite, which sits at the foot of Beinglas in the small village of Inverarnan around two miles north of the top of Loch Lomond. It’s a wonderfully spacious campsite that can accommodate up to 100 tents with room to spare! No booking is required – you just turn up. The campsite is situated on the West Highland Way, so is also popular with walkers. The solidly built, heated 'camping cabins' offer a warm and dry low-cost alternative to camping in a tent.
