Tiree is most westerly of the Inner Hebridean islands. Sitting 60 miles west of Oban, this beautiful isle is officially one of the sunniest places in the UK. The CalMac ferry journey from Oban to Tiree takes around 3 hours 30 minutes. And what a journey it is! The ferry goes via Coll, so you can take the opportunity to visit this stunning Scottish island too. CalMac’s Island Hopscotch® 19 is the best way to combine a visit to these islands. You’ll cast off from Oban, navigate around Kerrera and then head out to sea for an epic journey past Mull. Once clear of the Sound of Mull, you’re heading to the island of Coll. Watch out for dolphin, porpoise, basking sharks and whales – this is prime cetacean-spotting territory. The ferry from Coll to Tiree drops you at the port in Scarinish.
Travel in style to Tiree and take the plane! Flybe operates flights to Tiree direct from Glasgow. It’s a truly stunning flight and you’ll be treated to epic aerial views of Mull and the Treshnish Islands. Flights in the summer run seven days a week and take around 40 minutes. Alternatively you can fly Oban (Connell) to Tiree with Hebridean Air on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tiree Airport is located near Crossapol at the centre of the island.
Tiree is surfers’ paradise. The island is perfectly placed to catch the swell from the North Atlantic, giving year-round, consistent waves. The entire island is fringed by sandy white bays, providing conditions to suit all levels of surfer, from sedate rollers for beginners to barreling beach breaks for experts. Tiree has a vibrant and friendly surfing scene and is home to some excellent surfing schools – Suds Surf, Wild Diamond and Blackhouse Watersports, offering surfing lessons for all levels
And if you like to feel the wind in your sail, Tiree is also one of the best places to windsurf in Europe. The island hosts the Tiree Wave Classic every year, the longest running pro windsurfing event in the world. This year the event takes place from 14th to 20th October 2017.
