Adventure in comfort with Provident Sailing

Provident Sailing takes up to 10 guests on 5-10 day voyages around the islands and west coast of Scotland on their 1924 classic sailing ship, Provident. We sail and run trips from April to October.

There is something for everyone on board. You don’t have to be a sailor to get involved but you might find it fun to join the crew hauling up the sails or taking the helm – all the crew will be willing to help you learn. Although Provident is very much a traditional sailing ship on deck, she is fitted out to a high standard below. There are four small but private cabins, a comfortable saloon, two heads (toilets) and a shower. Although Provident has an engine and a generator to make sure everyone can charge their devices and have hot water on tap, Steve, the skipper, aims to sail whenever possible. There are planned itineraries for each trip, but every voyage on Provident has an element of chance – luckily on the west coast of Scotland there is always somewhere fantastic to go whatever direction the wind is blowing!

One of the best things about Provident is her iconic deckhouse where you can stay warm and dry and still feel part of the action or just watch the seabirds go by. All meals are provided, and Morag is a trained cook who specialises in using local produce wherever possible. She will always go ashore and see what the islanders have to offer. Walking and exploring is part of the Provident experience.   The crew know the islands and the landscape well and will plan plenty of time for land-based adventures. A favourite activity is to walk from one side of an island to the other and be met by the boat. Whatever adventure the day brings, Provident provides a warm, comfortable base. Spend the evening swapping stories with your fellow crew mates and plan your next adventure!
