Bag the MacPhies of Colonsay and Oronsay
A MacPhie is a climb in excess of 300ft in height, and is Colonsay and Oronsay's equivalent to a Munro.
Colonsay and Oronsay, measuring roughly 10 miles long and two miles wide, are part of a long Hebridean island chain off the west coast of Scotland in the Atlantic Ocean. The pair of islands is more specifically located in the Inner Hebrides, close to the Scottish mainland. To the north lies the island of Mull, while the eastern and southern horizons are bound by the islands of Jura and Islay.
Colonsay is famed for its tranquillity, unspoilt beauty and sandy beaches. A must-visit is Kiloren Bay showcasing some of the island's stunning views across the sea. It doesn't stop there, you’ll find stunning natural scenery, a huge diversity of flora and fauna, and some fascinating archaeological sites as you explore the island.
Colonsay is home to an eighteen-hole golf course with fantastic views over the North Atlantic, a fantastic heritage centre and is home to Wild Thyme Spirits, where you can take a guided tour around the local gin distillery. With around 125 inhabitants and its nearest neighbouring community almost 20 miles distant, Colonsay and the locals, guarantee a friendly welcome from the small residential community, who are happy to show visitors the local history, beauty spots and brilliant craftsmanship along the way.
