Immerse yourself in Tiree

Tiree is the most westerly of the Inner Hebridean islands. Sitting 60 miles west of Oban, far out in the Atlantic Ocean, this beautiful isle is officially one of the sunniest places in the UK.  Tiree is flat and treeless and home to some of the best beaches in Scotland. They fringe most of the island, providing miles of white sands and great surfing and windsurfing.

One of the loveliest is Balephetrish Bay on the north coast of the island. The island is rich in history, with a number of fascinating sites, from rock art to iron-age forts. Tiree today is still a working community, where the land is split into thirty-one crofting townships, each controlled by a grazing committee.

Getting Here

Travel by car, bus, or train to Oban and then catch the ferry from the CalMac ferry terminal. Enjoy the breath-taking sights as you travel through the sound of Mull, before trying to spot some dolphins as you head towards the Isle of Tiree, by way of the Isle of Coll. What better way to start your holiday than taking in the scenic views, whether travelling by car, foot or bike.

If travelling light, you could also catch the small passenger plane from Glasgow run by Loganair, which arrives on the Island within less than an hour. If you are lucky on a clear day, the views from above are magical, and you will be treated to a spectacular view of the entire island as you circle into the land.
